I loved this book! The story drew me in immediately. The characters are relatable and likeable so you can really understand their inner struggles between choosing to follow their heart or their head. The main protagonists have to manage obligations, expectations and longings while dealing with a bit of mystery, suspense and danger. Road to Harmony by Sherry Kyle is a sweet story of duty and expectations, promises and love, set in the picturesque Harmony Valley in 1907. The writing is warm and personal, and the characters are real and engaging, as they struggle with cattle rustlers and matters of the heart. I strongly recommend this lovely novel!
A delightful story with a few twists and turns that kept me engaged and guessing. The main characters strive to deny their hearts' desires in order to meet the expectations of their families, but in the end, not everything is as it seems. I enjoyed the happy and somewhat unexpected ending. Another fun read from Sherry Kyle!

Sherry Kyle is known for her intriguing plots that grip readers from the first page to the last. I especially related to the main characters--Elena and Jonas--who love one another but are bound to family tradition and their parents' wishes for their futures. Will they step forward and declare their love despite opposition or will they deny their truth? I loved reading every page to find out what happens in this delightful novel set in Harmony, California in the early 1900s. Tears of suspense and joy welled up more than once as I read.
Sherry Kyle is a new-to-me-author. I enjoyed this historical fiction set in California in the early 1900’s. It’s filled with romance, suspense and an ending you won’t guess. Elena Seifert and Jonas Bollinger were childhood sweethearts until Jonas abruptly left Harmony Valley. Jonas returns and makes a promise to his dying Pa, and Jonas and Elena find themselves promised to marry other people. Will they be true to themselves or respect their family loyalties? Will they find peace in their decisions? The characters are well-developed, and you will find yourself totally involved in their struggles! Check it out!
The Road to Harmony is a sweet story about star-crossed lovers who struggle with the tension between their perceived obligations and their hearts’ true desires. Sherry Kyle depicts the relationship between Elena and her mentally impaired brother particularly well. Elena has to learn where to draw the line between protecting her brother and allowing him to become independent.
Elena’s choice of a husband and a lifestyle is the heart of this story. The historical setting of early twentieth century California recalls a time when a significant percentage of the economy was agriculturally based. Matrimony was as much an economic decision and a family affair as it was a personal choice. Readers might ponder how true this is in today’s culture.
Kyle captures some of the social friction that was growing in the progressive era. Gender roles were being redefined, but the Christian ethic was still strong. That Elena would endeavor to accommodate the needs of others to the point of sacrificing her dreams may not play well in today’s narcissistic culture. But sacrifice often affords a solution. Given enough faith and time, good things can happen to those who wait on the Lord.
